Objectives
Academic Reinforcement: Students become better students by learning while having fun. Their interests can span virtually any industry and by empowering and engaging their interests, they become better students. They learn about economics, business, computer science, and technology, which are based on sound writing, reading, math, and science skills.
College Credit: The design of the program will be in conjunction with college-based standards to give students an opportunity to get valuable college credit, which can save money and be more prepared than their peers.
Self Confidence and Develop Future Leaders: Students look for opportunities in their communities to add value. Whether it be their schools, their communities, or local businesses, students become leaders by addressing deficiences, and meeting with other leaders to showcase their products and services. We want students to feel empowered and feel needed.
Bridge Digital Divide: In many communities we target, there isn't access to resources, teaching, or mentorship to understand and learn about the new opportunities created with social media and mobile computing. We teach the principles and allow the students to apply them to their interests, while having ownership in the direction.
Social Development: Students work in teams, based on their talents and interests, to develop a final product. Learning these skill sets early will pay dividends in their personal and professional development. They learn to be adaptable, yet flexible.
Community Building: We will engage with the students and their local communities to inform and connect. The 21st Century Youth Project aims to add value to these communities.
Continuing Education and Educational Assistance: Our goal from a sustainability standpoint is to support the students in their educational endeavors. A portion of the funds generated will be applied to a General Scholarship Fund to continue the development of students as they pursue their careers long after their participation in the program.
Tracking Success: Through a combination of analyzing the students writing and math abilities through the program with state and national benchmarking standards, we aim to track student attendance with their schools. We will conduct detailed interviews, and film the progress of the students as a documentary and a weekly webisode.
